Do you live near Grand Rapids, or elsewhere in Michigan? Perhaps we
can find a library near you that has these archives.

I don't know of any paper anywhere that has online archives from so
early.

Grand Rapid Press has free 14 day archives (
http://www.mlive.com/search/ ) and paid archives going back 8 years (
http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/grpress/index.html?ts=1045839029 ).

Archives are also available on Dow Jones Interactive from May 1990 and
UMI ProQuest Direct from January 1998 (
http://www.libraries.psu.edu/crsweb/docs/fulltext/fh.htm ).

This is an illustration of why people still go to the libraries for
microfilms -- especially for older newspapers, microfilms are the only
complete source. It's probably not profitable for anyone to create
databases for most newspapers from more than about fifteen years ago.

If you are interested in the library option, please let me know.
