I am in Canada now planning to go to China to operate an English teaching business there. Is it easier for me to incorporate a company here in Canada, then go to China, and use my Canadian company as the foundation for doing business in China? Or, is it easier / less risky to start from the ground up in China? Not being perfectly fluent in reading or speaking Chinese I fear being taken advantage of by people in China that I reach out to help me establish my business. If I arrive in China with an already established Canadian corporation or company, does that mean that my only option is to find a Chinese partner form a joint venture with? Would that mean ceding a certain degree of control and share of the profits to my Chinese partner? Ultimately, I want to establish an English teaching business in China. I want to have as much control over the company as possible. I would prefer to be the sole owner. What is my best course of action? |

Dear Augusta Education is a very restricted industry in China and you cannot simply walk in and start such a business. It is very important to look around and get some basic legal background. Best thing to do is go to China, teach for a year using one of the established ventures and then make up your own mind. Cheers, Fons |
