You note that the program is called "konX", but the
dll file is spelled "knox". Is one of these misspelled?

When a dll is first called, it is loaded into memory and the file is
locked. In order to delete the file, you either have to force the
system to unload the dll or reboot and delete the file before it is
loaded. People can probably talk you through how to accomplish this
if you list your opporating system.
(win2k, windows XP ect).

I searched for both spellings of the DLL and did not find any
reference, so I am not aware of what it does, but in general, it is a
good idea to try to get rid of entire programs and not just one file
that is part of it. You might want to check add/remove programs in
control panel to see if there is anything there that you do not
recognize and then try to figure out what program "owns" the dll.

Other recomendations would be to make sure you have an updated virus
scanner and possibly an additional program that checks for spy-ware
like AD-Aware these can often fix problems that come from malicious
web sites.

You can right click on the .dll file in Windows Explorer and examine
its "properties". This may provide some information about the author,
version, etc.

If you are intent upon deleting the file, you might first try removing
the application which uses it (if this can be determined). This way
the file will no longer be "in use" the next time you boot, and it
should be simple to remove the file (by deleting it) at that point.

You don't mention what operating system you are using. A trick that
used to be helpful under Windows NT was to rename the .dll file, then
reboot. Since the file no longer existed under the expected name, it
would not be "in use" and could be deleted, etc. However some newer
versions of Windows also prevent the "in use" files from being
renamed.

I'll assume you already have a virus scanning utility. You should
consider supplementing this with a "spyware" or "malware" utility that
checks for known Trojan software (programs installed under misleading
guises that perform harmful activities such as reporting on your
computer activities):

[Lavasoft's Adaware]
http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

or the somewhat more technically oriented but highly rated:

[PepiMK's Spybot Search & Destroy]
http://spybot.safer-networking.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download

These programs are provided free for personal use, but donations are
encouraged to help continue their distribution and development.

You simply log to Ms Dos and type del "<full of path of the file>"
or try typing "edit" and click file>open choose the dll file and open
it ..... you may see some weird characters but type anything then save
it. Now the dll is corrupted and it won't load , so you can simply now
login to windows and delete it.
