Hi Mike,

When did you submit your site?

Greetings, Mike!

Since you just registered your site with Plusnet on May 25 of this
year (just over 6 weeks ago), even if you had your site up that day
and then submitted the URL to Google, it's still barely been long
enough for your site to start showing up in Google's Index. I'm
guessing that it's been less time even than that; so as far as Google
goes, you will just need to be patient. It can sometimes take 3 months
or longer for a site to appear in Google's Index!

In the meantime, a site will often appear and disappear from Search
Results, because it's only been picked up by the Freshbot (Google's
daily crawler, which spiders newly-submitted URLs and sites such as
newspapers where the content changes daily). Freshbot entries don't
get loaded to all of Google's multitudinous servers all over the world
immediately, but appear through a more gradual process. Once a site is
crawled with the Googlebot, it will hopefully show up consistently in
Google's Index.

(I'm hoping that you didn't submit your URL before your site was up
and running. This can cause some real delays in getting listed, if the
Googlebot visited your site before it was loaded, and decided that
nothing was there, so it removed the URL from its index.)

In the meantime, you can work on getting your site submitted to other
Search Engines and Directories.

Just so you have them, here are the normal instructions for submission
to Google (but don't do that again right now, since you have just
submitted your site to them):
  Google:
(Be aware that it may take anywhere from 1 to 3 months for your site
to start showing up on Google; however, since Google also uses DMOZ as
a guide to its indexing efforts, your previous submission to DMOZ
might speed that up a little.)

When submitting, be sure to follow their instructions; for instance,
some Engines request that you submit only your top-level URL rather
than every one of your pages. Failure to follow the instructions can
result in lowered rankings or even in being blacklisted from a Search
Engine.

  DMOZ (Directory Mozilla/Open Directory Project):
Category - Regional: North America: United States: Florida:
Localities: K: Kissimmee: Travel and Tourism: Lodging: Vacation
Rentals: Agencies and Companies
http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Florida/Localities/K/Kissimmee/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/Vacation_Rentals/Agencies_and_Companies
You can submit your site on this page:
http://editors.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/add.cgi?where=Regional/North_America/United_States/Florida/Localities/K/Kissimmee/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/Vacation_Rentals/Agencies_and_Companies

A DMOZ listing is **critical**, because it will get you on ODP partner
sites including AOL Search, Ask Jeeves & Teoma, DirectHit, Dogpile,
Excite, HotBot, Google, Infospace, Lycos, Netscape Search, Webcrawler,
as well as HUNDREDS of other sites:

And here are the submission URLs for the rest of the Big Guys:

  About.com:
You should e-mail Dawn Henthorn, the Guide of the following category,
and nicely request that your site be included in About.com (it may be
a long shot, but it's worth a try)

Or, you can post information about your site on the Bulletin Board in
this Category:

If you can't get your site listed for free, you can purchase different
kinds of ads on About.com, ***but I would hold off on that, at least
for a little while***.

Paid Inclusion Directories and Search Engines
---------------------------------------------
I would try all the free options first, then wait at least 2 or 3
months. If you still don't feel that you're getting the traffic that
you need, then you *might* consider some paid inclusion options.

Be wary of using a service that advertises "submission to hundreds (or
thousands) of Search Engines and Directories". Most of these sites are
barely used by web surfers, and you don't have any control over where
links to your site are being placed.

It is estimated that 80-90% of Search Engine traffic to websites comes
through Google. By getting a DMOZ listing, which will trickle down to
Google and all those hundreds of DMOZ partner sites in the list to
which I linked above, you would be guaranteeing your site a VERY wide
exposure.

Again, with Web Search listings, the key word is, unfortunately --
patience. However, if you follow the submission instructions listed
above, I believe that within 2-3 months you should see some real
results.

Before Rating my Answer, if you have any questions about the above
information, please post a Request for Clarification, and I will be
delighted to see what I can do for you.

Best Wishes on improved Search Results and increased web traffic to
your site!

Hello, I submitted the site about a month ago, I did load the site to
the new URL prior to submitting, at what point do I resubmit the site,
is there a period when it should have been looked at?

Thanks

Mike

Hello again, Mike!

It's probably still too soon yet to expect your site to show up in
Google's Index. According to "Google Information for Webmasters",

"Google finds sites through a process known as "crawling" the web.
This involves robot software that follows hyperlinks from site to
site. Google currently looks at more than 3 billion URL's during the
crawl. ***The process may take several weeks to complete.***"

I would recommend waiting at least a couple more weeks before
resubmitting your site to Google. I know that as a new website owner,
you're anxious, but while you are waiting, you can get your site
submitted to the other Search Engines and Directories I listed above.

Something else that I strongly encourage you to do is to make use of
the WONDERFUL WebMasterWorld Forums, where both experts and newbies
discuss all kinds of information, research, and strategies on Search
Engines and Site Optimization. Registration is free:

and of WebMasterWorld's partner site, SearchEngineWorld, which
contains lots of nifty tools and other tips to help you make your site
as friendly as possible to Google and other Search Engines:
