Question ID: 226248
I have a iPaq running PPC2002, IBM ThinkPad running XP-Pro
and both are connected via Linksys 811.b cards to an LinkSys 811.b
router.

ThinkPad: fixed IP address 192.168.1.50, fixed DNS addresses, mask
255.255.255.0 (IE, and all network activity work fine). WEP is not
being used right now.

Router: 192.168.1.1 Router has no Wep enabled.

Ipaq: fixed IP 192.168.1.60. I built a Flash MX application that opens
a port
(in the upper 10,000) that can talk and receive with the ThinkPad. Oh
yes,
I also have pocket hosts on the thinkpad so that I don't have to use
fixed
IPs.

However, PIE and ActiveSync do not work. I have gone to
settings/connnects. Created a Work connection. Set the VPN settings to
the laptop (tried both fixed ip and by name). When I start the
connection, all I get is a popup telling me it is trying to open the
connection, it plays the activesync tune, and then it gives up. The
first time it asked for username/password, but it no longer does that.
ActiveSync is running on the Laptop.

I figure if I can fix the activeSync issue then the PIE will also
work.

Oh yes, the network connector is set to the WiFi, and it shows that
the infrastructure mode is currently the selected setting. (but this
must be true
or the Flash program would not find the thinkpad).

I have partial success. PIE now works. ActiveSync is still a problem.

What did I do?

In Setting/Connections/VPN I had been using the laptop (WinXP) and it's IP.
I changed this to the Router (Linksys) which is the gateway and used it's IP.
I set DHCP (let router choose IP) and choose DNS. I also set the
Proxy settings for setting connects to Interent.

I find I have to set the "Network card connects to:" The Internet. However,
the bizzare thing is that the VPN and all the setup that I just described was
in the WORK settings. The internet settting is setup for a Verizon Sierra
Wireless card that is an a PC card sleeve that is not even on the PDA right
now.

I really want to get the ActiveSync stuff working. But if I try activesync
in this format, it tries to sync to the router ip. And therefore it complains
that it has a problem with the VPN connection (really!). Also what
should I use for username/password/domain? There is no domain
on this home network! and the username for the XP device has a space in
it?
