We need a VERY accurate up to date list of all US postal worker
shooting incidents from 1985 to present.

We will need the location that they occured, the person who was
responsible for the shooting and the number of people killed or
injured.

This is for educational/commentary purposes.

Thank you

Hello Freakfarm,

Thank you for your question.

I have a list of 25 postal shootings from 1983 to 1999. This list
includes the date, the location where they occurred, the person who
was responsible for the shooting and the number of people killed or
injured.

Would the above information suffice as an answer to your question?

Thanks
Bobbie7

Interestingly enough, despite many incidents of workplace violence, or
school shootings in the last few years, there hasn't been any "postal"
incident in the last several years. That doesn't imply that postal
workers are safe of harm. They fell victim in the last few years to
gang shootings, robbery, and hate crime.

Although you haven't asked for this statistics, these are several
further cases where postal offices became shooting ranges:

In 20 May 1998, in Tuscon, AZ, Gracie M. Verduzco, who suffered of a
mental illness, shot people at her local post office, killing one and
injuring four (see http://www.prophecyclub.com/sept98/15.html)

In August 7th 2002, A San “08/07/02: Shots fired in a busy California
postal office” http://www.mrcranky.com/movies/masterofdisguise/143.html
- a man is shot during an argument between customers in LA.

“A woman was found stabbed to death in a one-room post office in
Fleming, about 15 miles from Hinesville in Liberty County.
The victim, whose name authorities did not release, was a postal
employee at the Fleming Loop Road building, Liberty County Sheriff's
officials said. At least one witness knew her as "Miss Sally." A woman

“The next day [June 22, 2003], again in broad daylight, another man
was shot. This time it was U.S. Postal Service carrier Clayton J.
Smith, 45, a local native who had lived in Colliers, W.Va., for the
past four or five years.
Smith, who worked out of the Crafton post office, was shot in the back
around 2 p.m. as he stood outside his clearly marked postal van that
was parked next to a strip of trees on the Ingram side of the
Crafton-Ingram Shopping Center. The U.S. Postal Service has offered a
$100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.”

The reasons for "going postal" are variant. The stress in this kind of
job and the conditions are the typical explanations. Sometimes, it
affects workers themselves without hariming others:

“A Postal Service project engineer, Judith Coffin, 46, had 12 years
with the postal service. Coffin also was diabetic. After receiving a
promotion, in 1993, overseeing workers who install and maintain
mail-processing machines in the city's largest post office things went
downhill. From the beginning of her new position she was relentlessly
sexually harassed, and verbally abused, by the male subordinates and
male supervisors under her. Coffin complained to postal officials who
did nothing to alleviate the situation. On August 17, 1995 after
almost two years of the harassment and postal officials not dealing
with the problem, Judith Coffin met with a superior to discuss her job
status. That same day Coffin left a suicide note blaming the Postal
Service for her decision to end her life. She then took an overdose of
insulin and died six days later.“ (Source: “In Memory of Postal
Workers Who Succumbed to Suicide and/or Homicide in the Workplace”

“A Korean-American protesting against the North Korean government
emptied a seven-shot pistol in front of U.N. headquarters Thursday,
hitting several offices but injuring no one, authorities said.”

"postal worker" "postal employee" "going postal" with other
combinations such as "homicide", "murder" "shooting".
