Greetings, gkiii!

Probably the best way for you to save these files as archive files is
to convert the .pdf files to a different, editable format.

Unfortunately, .pdf files are a *proprietary* format created by Adobe
specifically for use with documents created by Adobe Acrobat and its
companion products. As a user, the problem for you with .pdf documents
is that Adobe has deliberately made it difficult to edit these files,
unless you purchase Adobe Acrobat.

The easiest way to convert .pdf files to an editable format is to
purchase Adobe's full-featured version of Acrobat (if you don't
already have it). This would cost you $299.00 for the Standard version
and $449.00 for the Professional version.

A more complex solution is to use a free facility to convert all the
.pdf files, one-by-one.

Adobe provides conversion from pdf format to either plain text or
html.
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/access_onlinetools.html

To convert a pdf file by e-mail, either via URL or e-mail attachment
(you can include multiple URLs in one e-mail):
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/access_email.html

To convert, real-time, a pdf file that has been uploaded to the web:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/access_simple_form.html
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/access_adv_form.html
(allows you to specify page range and other special instructions)

Once you have used this tool to create text documents, you can import
them into Word (or some other word processing program), concatenate
them into one document, format it as necessary, and save them on
CD-ROM in .doc, .txt, or other file formats.

Subject: CDRW Misconceptions
From: nliu99-ga on 09 Jul 2003 09:34 PDT

Hi!

I want to clear a few misconceptions about CDRW.

1. Unlike CDR you can rewrite CDRW.
2. Most CDRW have to wipe the entire CDRW clean to rewrite files on
the CD.
3. You can not change files in the CDRW on the fly unless you have a
software like DirectCD from Adaptec which will make the CDRW disc
behave like a hard drive.

A lot a people mistaken CDRW means you can edit files on the CDRW like
a hard drive. You can NOT make changes to files on CDRW unless you
have a software like DirectCD. The way DirectCD works is it appends
the new file at the end of CDRW, and mark the old file location
rewritable.

So if you don't have DirectCD (or similiar software) all files on the
CDRW will be read only (therefor you can't change the properties of
the files). If you want to change a file on the CD you will have to
wipe it clean and rewrite everything.
