using windowsxp when i put the computer in hibernate mode it goes into
hibernate the comes back on automatically in 5 minutes goes back into
hibernate then comes back on again. Then goes back into hibernate for
good. Why does it come back on 2 or 3 times before it finally goes
into complete hibernate

Are you putting it in standby mode, or into hibernate? If it is
hibernate mode, you may have a hardware issue. What kind of computer
do you have?

Check the wake-on-lan settings for your network card. There might also
be a setting for it and other power save features in the BIOS.

this may also be a rtc wake up problem. some pcs are able to switch
themselves on at a specified time. when xp goes into hibernate, it
switches the pc completly off. Can you switch off your pc correctly?
