Can you direct me to a data source that would provide the headquarters
location for each fortune 500 company.  i am trying to determine how
many companies are located in each state and then how many in each of
the major metropolitan statistical locations in each state.  Thanks.

Dear economan,

The 2003 Fortune 500 online database is currently only available to
subscribers of the Fortune Magazine. However, I found a list of the
2002 Fortune 500, broken down by broken down by state. Each entry
includes rank nationwide, name of company, headquarters and 2002
revenue in billions of dollars. Would you be interested in that as an
answer?
