I am redoing my dining room. I have been collecting old tin plates, trays, dishes, an old red metal fork and spoon, etc. in red and yellow that I will hang on the walls. My table is old - dark wood. My question is what treatment should I use for the walls? I want a warm, country feeling. There are many different shades of red and yellow in the objects I plan to hang. The floor is hardwood so I also need to buy a rug to compliment the walls and furnishings. I am on a limited budget and will do all the work myself. Thanks. Mimi K. |

How about a natural burlap wallcovering? Burlap is surprisingly easy to apply to walls (easier than wallpaper, in my opinion). A large multicolor country-style braided rug would look nice with the decor you describe. Or several small throw rugs. You don't want to cover up too much of that lovely hardwood floor. |

You don't want to paint the walls red or yellow - yes, those colors are warm and inviting but I think it will overpower the room and you'll lose the appeal of your collections. Perhaps wainscoating up to a chair rail (you can buy these in sheets for cheap) then paint the upper part of the wall in a warm creamy beige color. Good luck! |
