Greetings, diarydeveloper!
First of all, you don't say to what DMOZ category you submitted your
site, when you submitted it to DMOZ, or whether you got a response
from them as to why they did not list it, and if so, what that
response said. It's important for you to post a Clarification with
this information, as it may change the advice you receive.
As best as I can determine, your site should have been submitted in
this category:
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Web_Applications/Personal_Information_Managers
It's my educated guess that the biggest reasons you are having so many
problems is the fact that you do not yet have an Address Book /
Contact List functionality. You really need to get this Feature up and
running on your site ABSOLUTELY as quickly as you can. I know that if
I were looking for an online Personal Information Manager, and I
looked at a site that didn't include this Feature, I'd go somewhere
else.
Something else that may be contributing to the problems is the fact
that you have numerous errors in spelling and grammar on your Main
Page and Feature Tour. This is something that many people might
consider a sign of lack of professionalism, reliability, and the
secureness of the private information on your site. You will want to
get this corrected as soon as possible.
Another problem might be one of terminology. The current "buzzword"
for the type of service that you provide is "Personal Information
Manager", and that phrase doesn't appear anywhere on your site. While
you will want to keep the words diary, diaries, e-diary, e-diaries,
journal, journals, e-journal, and e-journal somewhere in the text of
your main page, by far the majority of your references should be to
personal information manager / managers / management, and none of
these phrases appear on your main page. You will also want to include
day planner, dayplanner, calendar, and calendars (and when it's ready,
Address Book, Contacts, and Contact List).
I recommend that you get your modifications made first before trying
again to get into DMOZ and Google. It will increase the quality of
your website, and thus, your chances of persuading DMOZ to accept it.
Once you have made the modifications I recommended above, then you
will need to re-submit your site again to Google, to get the Googlebot
to take a fresh look at it:
Google:
(Be aware that it may take anywhere from 1 to 3 months for your site
to start showing up on Google; however, since Google also uses DMOZ as
a guide to its indexing efforts.)
When submitting, be sure to follow their instructions; for instance,
some Engines request that you submit only your top-level URL rather
than every one of your pages. Failure to follow the instructions can
result in lowered rankings or even in being blacklisted from a
SearchEngine.
DMOZ (Directory Mozilla/Open Directory Project):
Category - Computers: Internet: On the Web: Web Applications: Personal
Information Managers
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Web_Applications/Personal_Information_Managers
You can submit your site on this page:
http://editors.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/add.cgi?where=Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Web_Applications/Personal_Information_Managers
**Remember, you should wait at least 3 to 4 weeks for your listing to
appear in DMOZ before inquiring about your listing request.**
A DMOZ listing is **critical**, because it will get you on ODP partner
sites including AOL Search, Ask Jeeves & Teoma, DirectHit, Dogpile,
Excite, HotBot, Google, Infospace, Lycos, Netscape Search, Webcrawler,
as well as HUNDREDS of other sites:

And here are the submission URLs for the rest of the Big Guys:

Hello again, diarydeveloper!
I've taken a look at both DMOZ categories
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Web_Applications/Personal_Information_Managers
and
http://dmoz.org/Arts/Online_writing/Journals/Resources/Hosts
The way you are currently describing your site, it would be better
suited to the Online_Writing category; if you wanted to submit it as a
Personal Information Manager site, you would need to get the Address
Book / Contact List functionality up and running, and you would need
to re-write the description of your site on your main page.
As it stands, I'd say that it is almost certain that your site was not
listed because of all the typographical and grammatical errors. If you
get these fixed, you stand a good chance of getting listed; HOWEVER,
you want to be sure NOT to submit your site until it has been polished
and is all ready to go. To improve your chances of getting listed, you
may want to implement some or all of the functionalities you have
listed as being "In The Works" BEFORE submitting your site again.
You will also want to double-check your sign-in process to make sure
that it is working properly -- a DMOZ Editor will likely try to
register, and if they have any problem gaining access to your site,
they will not be willing to add your site to the Directory.
I can't emphasize enough how *critical* it is for you to make sure
that your site is as professional-looking, as fully-functional, and as
free of any kind of errors as you can make it. The conventional wisdom
is that if a site is rejected twice by DMOZ, it will not be considered
again for inclusion. Ever.
As far as your new Question of finding copywriters to proofread your
site, it appears that our discussion has led to areas that, while
related, are beyond the scope of your original Question. The BEST way
for you to get exactly what you need would be to post a new Question
for that request. While you can ask a Researcher to help you find a
copyeditor, you may find it more cost-effective to make your Question
"Please Proofread My Site for Errors in Spelling and Grammar", and
have a Researcher do the copyediting for you. If you choose to do
this, I encourage you to check Google Answers' Pricing Guidelines:
http://answers.google.com/answers/pricing.html
"$2 - $5
· Can be answered with a single link or a single piece of
information. Sometimes, if a researcher is personally interested in
the question's subject, they may provide a longer answer.
· Not appropriate for multipart questions.
· Only 60% of the questions asked in this price range are answered.
$10-$15
· Can be answered with 30 minutes of work.
$20-$50
· Typically require at least 30 minutes of work
· Questions are very likely to get answered by Researchers
· If time is a concern for you, questions priced in this range get
rapid attention
$50 and up
· The minimum price appropriate for complex, multi-part questions
· Researchers will typically spend at least one hour on $50
questions and be very responsive to follow-up questions
· If time is a concern for you, questions priced in this range get
very rapid attention."
Best Wishes on getting your site listed in DMOZ -- I look forward to
seeing your site pop up in the Google Search Results very soon!
All the Best,
ace
