It would be very helpful if you could describe the genre of the song
(is it, for instance, punk? grunge? hard rock? easy listening?)

If you recall any lyrics, that might provide a clue as well. Even a
tiny scrap of a clue can sometimes lead to success in tracking down
this kind of information.

Hello cheb-ga,

The band you are looking for is Galicja.

According to Metro Times Detroit,
http://www.metrotimes.com/metropolis/sonic/artistprofile.asp?id=5574
“"Galicja (pronounced 'Ga-lee-see-uh') is a 5-piece band from the
Detroit area featuring guitars, bass, drums and -- fairly uniquely --
cello. Galicja has been in existence since the summer of 1997, playing
shows in Detroit and building a local following and reputation. Their
'sound' could be described as slower, melodic and introspective,
somewhere in the realm of the Velvet Underground, Joy Division and
American Music Club. Their name comes from a region now part of the
Ukraine which, during the beginning of the 20th Century, was one of
the intellectual and artistic hubs of Europe.”

Toledoentertainment.com list the members of Galicja as:
http://www.toledoentertainment.com/bands/bandgalicja.html

Jan Cameron: Guitar
Megan Lynn Morrill: Cello/ Vox
Aaron Warshaw: Guitar/ Vox
Teri Lynn Williams: Bass/ Vox
Sarah Zeiden: Percussion

They have made two recordings: a 10” vinyl, “Blocking Your View” in
1998; and a CD/LP “The Longest Wait” in 1999, both on Spectator
Records.

Metro Times Detroit has three songs from “The Longest Wait” available
for download (scroll to the bottom of the page).
http://www.metrotimes.com/metropolis/sonic/artistprofile.asp?id=5574
"As If I Wanted"
"A Smile"
"Just Let Go"

I found “The Longest Wait” listed for sale at two websites:

Insound
 http://www.insound.com/annex/searchalpha.cfm?searchby=G
“The Longest Wait CD - $11.99
GALICJA
Label: Spectator”

APEXCD
http://www.apexcd.com/CDs/apexCDList.asp?artists=g
galicja the longest wait spectator $7.99

I am not familiar with these websites and cannot confirm if the CD is
actually available.

Metro Times Detroit provides the following information about Spectator
Records:
http://www.metrotimes.com/19/23/Features/lmusLasting.html
“SPECTATOR RECORDS

PO Box 385
Royal Oak, MI 48068
e-mail: spectator@aol.com
www.spectator-records.com

Proprietor: Aaron Warshaw”

I tried to find Spectator Records at

http://www.spectator-records.com/

and

http://www.spectatorrecords.com/

Neither website was functioning.

I have sent e-mails to Aaron Warshaw, and to the music editor at Metro
Times Detroit to try to obtain more information about the band.

I have not yet received any responses. If I do receive a response, I
will post that information here as an answer clarification.
