I have Windows XP Home and Nero. I use Windows Media Player .Sometimes
when I am trying to create an audio CD with Nero and drag the required
track across for recording I receive the message "the file format is
not supported". The track will be "asx"(whatever that is) and will
play normally through Windows Media Player. What do I have to do to
record this type of track to a CD by using Nero?

Hi lesgo~

You need to convert your asx files to standard mp3 format. It takes
software to do this, and probably the cheapest software for it is
"Total Recorder," which is free to try and $11.95 to buy. You'll find
the download at Cnet's Download.com:

Good luck!

I have downloaded the program you suggested but all that seems to have
happened
was that all the titled tracks in Windows Media Player turned red, and
were unable to be played. I uninstalled the downloaded program and
used System Restore to restore the tracks to their previous
playability.Have you any further advice? I also downloaded a trial
program called Konvertor, but that seemed to complicated for me as a
mere amateur.

Hi lesgo~

Unfortunately, the *only* way you're going to be able to burn those
songs in Nero is to convert them to mp3 (or possibly wav, but wav
files take up a lot more space).

I searched Cnet.com (a good source for programs, free or otherwise)
for something similar that might work for you, but didn't come up with
any very good alternatives.

Did you try contacting customer support?

If you're still unable to get the program to work, I'll contact the
editors at GA and have them remove this answer.

Hi kriswrite,
Thanks for your speedy reply. I did try technical support at Nero.
They did give me a stereotyped reply which was not very helpful and
filled with far too many technical phrases (when will these technical
types realise that not every computer user has a Master's Degree in
computer technology)instead of using understandable language.Anyway
I'll come back to you in a few days when I've tried your original
suggestion again.
Best wishes
Lesgo.
