I have a marine compass and binnacle circa late 1800's--early 1900's. It was made for a steel trawler by Lally & Reynolds, Clarendon Street, London, EC3 U.K. A part of the binnacle is missing and i would like to find or make a replacement. Is Lally and Reynolds still in business Can a catalogue of their products be found on-line or elsewhere Is there a source of illustrations of marine instruments from this period |

I was unable to find any reference to Lally and Reynolds. If the company is still in business, it may have another name now. The Antique Scientific Instruments site has photographs of antique marine instruments, with dates and very brief descriptions: http://www.antique-scientific-instruments.de/antique.html Gemmarys Antique Scientific Instruments has their online catalog, with photographs and long descriptions, as well as a forum where people exchange information: http://www.gemmary.com/rcb/insts/forum/forum.shtml As this field is so specialized, you would do best to ask antique dealers about their repair or restoration facilities. Trinity Marine has an online gallery of antique instrument photographs, and bills themselves as Europes largest nautical antique dealers. http://www.trinitymarine.co.uk/category4_1.htm |
