This question is for Wonko-ga only. Sorry about the George Washington question. This website isn't all that intuitive. It was a test. I'm running Windows 2000 Professional on an IBM T-23. On one of my questions to you about Avid Xpress DV 3.0, I told you I was having problems with the "record" function. Though the computer can see the camera in the Device Driver, the Avid "record" function will not drive the camera (re-wind, fast forward, record, play, and etcetera). You suggested that I download Microsoft Service Pack 2, uninstall Microsoft Service Pack 3, and then install Service Pack 2. I'm pretty sure that this will solve my problems and I thank you for this idea Downloading Service Pack 2 to a temp file is easy. I bet it will be easy to install, too. However, in Add/Remove Programs, there is no Service Pack 3 shown. There's no SP3, either. However, there are lots of Windows 2000 hotfixes. So ...... exactly what do I uninstall to get rid of Service Pack 3? One computer guru with whom I talked says that there is no way to uninstall a Service Pack once it's in place. If this is true, can I install my IBM Recovery CD Rom and take care of the problem that way? I realize that will wipe everything out, but it doesn't matter too much. The problem is, what's the Service Pack number on the Recovery CD Rom. The information on the CD ROM is as follows. - Recovery CD ROM for IBM Thinkpad T23 MT 2647 - Version 1.0 - English/W2K-DT/Bootable - January 2002 - IBM P/N 32P6641 Please let me know if you have any ideas. Also, I think I'm paid up now. But, again, this website isn't all that intuitive. Thanks, Zaynab-ga |

First of all, you don't want to wipe your drive at this stage, particularly if you haven't done that sort of thing before and don't have a known successful backup regimen in place. It is possible you don't have Service Pack 3 installed since I would expect it to appear in your Add/Remove Programs function in the Control Panel. Do you have Service Pack 2? The DLL referred to in the tech-support note may have been altered by one of the Hot Fixes, or by some other program. My suggestion to you would be to try the workaround discussed on the customer forum http://www.avid.com/community/forums/Forum28/HTML/000003.html. At least check to see if you are in this situation: "Check the properties/VERSION of the following file... C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\ohci1394.sys If you have version 5.0.2195.5200 then you are a victim of this problem. You need to have version 5.0.2195.2924." If you have the correct version, then something else is probably the culprit. If so, and if you haven't installed Service Pack 2 previously, you might try installing it. You might also try reinstalling the Avid software again. If those steps don't solve the problem, I would suggest posting your problem to the customer forum or contacting Avid technical support directly before wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows 2000. I provided you with all of the technical support notes I could find referring to recording problems in my previous posting. If you need me to post them again, please request clarification, and I will add them to this answer. Sincerely, Wonko | |
