The Karaoke site www.doowop.com offers free shipping and no sales tax
. Their prices are the same or lower than the other companies who
charge like $8 shipping on the same order. What am I giving up buying
from them? Are they for real or is it a trick of some sort?

If you live in the United States it's for real. :)  No tricks!  I even
tested a shopping cart order and there was no shipping attached to an
order for only $10.00.  There also appears to be no catch, other than
6% sales tax added if shipped to Kentucky.  I found no small print
anywhere on the many doowop.com sites, and I searched the web for
reviews and only positive comments.

There are SEVERAL places online to buy karaoke discs. These are two of
my personal favorites!

Do a search on yahoo or google for "karaoke cdgs", and you'll get a
whole plethora of 'em!

I like Karaoke.com and doowop as they have the majority of all major
discs out there... and good specials!

Ok but there has to be something that stores a-y charge $8 per order
for that doowop.com (store z in this case) does not do or offer. I ran
a trial order for $1 (disk number 'free' a Christmas disk in July )
and it didn't look like it was going to add anything.

I'm not understanding what you mean stores a-y charge $8 per order for
that doowop.com (store z in this case)...

They don't charge for shipping. And you get what you order.  Nothing
more or less.  Period.  I've done a lot of business with online stores
that don't charge shippiing.  In fact, if a store does charge shipping
and I call them to place the order and ask if they'll either reduce
the shipping cost, or give me free shippping - they will give that to
me!  :)

Why not send an email or phone doowop and ask them directly?

I am sorry to be a pain. I assumed that they would send an item if you
ordered it but they have to be leaving out something. Do they have a
customer service dept? Are they loosing money on disk sales to build
some giant spam list? Have they cut out some service that everyone
else offers? I have ordered on of the 'free' disks and didn't start
getting popups or get a bunch of spam. I am totally happy with the
answer no need to reply. (Hey the guy's name is Victor how bad could
it be? )

Thank you for the nice rating!  Don't worry about being a pain... you
asked a legitimate question and I understand your worries.  However,
it seems that doowop is a good company.  They stand by their
reputation for good service and good deals.  'Free shipping' can be a
bit suspect - but it's the way many companies are doing business to
attract more customers.  It's a competitive world out there in b&m's
(brick and mortar stores) and the same applies to online e-stores.

Ok , I am Victor from www.doowop.com and this guy is either some smart
butt in our shipping department, a competetor or my mom. Who would pay
$10 to ask a question about a $1 sale?
Why not just order a $1 disk (which he mentioned) and see what happens
?
The original question was "what's missing?". What don't we give you
that other karaoke placed do ? That actually never got answered. Well
I will tell you .
I never trust something for nothing. Used cars are cheaper cause they
are used. Seconds have slight blemishes. Outlet stores are owned by
the manufacturer so they can sell direct to the public. Reasons , I
like reasons. If a place is just cheaper then I don't believe it. (or
they go out of business)
Answer: We don't have a paper catalogue and we don't offer phone
customer service. Think about it, 10 people get 'free' catalogues and
one of them buys something. Guess who pays for the 10 catalogues.
10 people call an 800 number and ask questions and one guy orders
something, again the guy that really buys a disk pays for all 10 calls
and labor.
If a customer has a problem with his order, he can't call up and get
it fixed on the phone, he has to email us about the problem .
Our competitors already have 800 numbers and customer service depts
set up so they have to offer the service on internet orders. We are
like those retirment citys in Florida that don't allow kids so that
they don't have to charge school tax.
