There was a kids show, probably in the late 60's or early 70's called
Woodrow the Woodsman. I'm not sure how long the show ran, but most
kids in Ohio seem to remember it. I'm looking for a list of the
characters (puppets?) including the peanut butter & jelly eating
elephant who lived in the well. A site with screen shots would be
fab, but a list of characters will do!

Hi Derekd ~

I am sorry to report that Clay Conroy, who played Woodrow the
Woodsman, passed away on July 10th, after a short illness.

His puppet pals were:

 * Tarkington Whom III the Owl
 * Voracious the peanut butter and jelly sandwich eating Elephant
 * Frederick Maximillian Gesundheit the Alley-Croc
(the world’s only half alligator/half crocodile with a German
   accent).

I did find a website for you with information about his long career in
television in Cleveland and Detroit.

You can read about him and a picture on the Detroit Kids Shows website
here:

The dedicated fan who maintains this website concluded:

"Clay Conroy is gone, but for the young at heart Woodrow the Woodsman
still lives, laughing and cavorting with his friends Tarkington the
Owl, Voracious the Elephant and Freddy the Alley-Croc, tucked
somewhere in the dark recesses of our memory, where the Enchanted
Forest is."

I'm sorry I didn't grow up in this area, he looked to be a pretty
popular show for kids back in the 60's and early 70's.
