Question ID: 229764
Windows 2k sp2
When trying to open Word 2000 SR1 or with SR2, I get the following
error.
Winword.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x30395c27" referenced memory "0x00000034". The
memory could not be "read".

I have uninstaled and reinstalled all office components, and service
packed the office installation, the same error occurs before and after
service packing.

I ahve rebooted the machine after uninstalling Office 2k and also
after reinstalling Office 2k, and switching the machine off over the
weekend.

The error first occurred after I shut down Word and got a similar type
of error message, on trying to reopen word, the above error occurs
each time.

I had Adobe Acrobat 6 installed as an add in at the time, but this has
been removed completely, and the same error occurs.

Hi jaycd,

I found your problem discussed on a couple of forums and your
Normal.dot file is probably corrupted - renaming it usually solves the
problem.

Forum: Word 2000 Crash on Startup, Last Try:
Solution:
"Rename (or delete) the Normal.dot file -- make sure it's the copy
that is being used by Word 2K, since you may have several copies of
this template left over on your system from other versions of Word.
Word 2K generally uses templates that are installed in the
Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates folder.
Response:
"I renamed the normal.dot files in the Program
Files\......\Office folder and the .....\Template folder.
And now MS Word works. "

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, or if this doesn't solve
your problem, please post a clarification request before rating my
answer.
