Are you sure those are the EXACT words? If not, what is the point the
person who made the quote is trying to make? Thanks.

Hi there,
There are two quotes that I could find that seems similar.
"I step into the abyss of faith; out past logic, theology, and my
deepest need, desire, and efforts to stay warm and safe and comforted;
out into what looks like an abyss because I can't see, feel, touch,
taste or more than barely believe in God in that darkness."
Julie Gochenour, from Cold Spell
or
"True prayer is a step out into the abyss of faith"
Ross Miller, from We Do Not Know How To Pray As We Ought
If any of the two quotes above match the quote you are looking for,
please let me know.
Thank you,

Here is another. Perhaps this is what you are seeking. If so, I'd be
pleased to post it as an answer along with the person to whom it is
attributed:
"The soul imagines that something great has taken place, that God
Himself has spoken, when in reality there is very little, or nothing,
or less than nothing. In truth, of what use is that which is void of
humility, charity, mortification, holy simplicity, silence, etc.? This
is why I affirm that these illusions offer a great obstacle to divine
union, for if the soul makes much of them, this fact alone drives it
very far from the abyss of faith..."
