Here are the lyrics to Pigs On The Wing, pt.1
from the album 'Animals' by Pink Floyd.

If you didn't care..., what happened to me,
And I didn't care..., for you
We would zig zag our way
through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing, up through the rain
Wondering, which of the buggers to blame
And watching, for pigs on the wing.

Can a researcher with guitar-playing skills help me..

I have a six-string steel semi-acoustic but playing it is still new to
me, & I find tabs sometimes a little hard to understand. Can you take
me through the chords used in the track above.. should be okay with
the strumming but where do my neck-end fingers go for each chord? In
short provide me with a basic annotated tab for a raw beginner, rather
than just a link to an existing tab..

Greetings Gan:

I'm a guitar player and the chords for this song are not difficult -
using the chart for the chords at
http://www.guitarnoise.com/pink_floyd/animals/pigs_on_the_wing_part_1_chords.txt
you'll see the lyrics there with the chord letters above them and the
chords used are:

G 320033
Gsus4 X30033
G(frm2) XX000X
C	X32010
Csus4	XX3010
A	X02220
Am	X02210
A7	X02223
D	XX0232
Dsus4	XX0233
F	133211
Am7/B	X22010

What the numbers, X and O mean:

EXAMPLE: Take the G(frm2) at value XX000X - *X* means do not play that
string and *0* means play the string open. So this chord "number"
indicates that the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings are to be played open
(with no fretting) for that sound.

EXAMPLE: Csus4	XX3010 The numbers are descending from the low E to
the high E strings. So, looking at it as if a guitar neck is facing
you:

X - don't play
X - don't play
3 - third fret finger position
0 - open string
1 - 1st fret finger position
0 - open string

EXAMPLE: G 320033

3 - third fret finger position
2 - second fret finger position
0 - open
0 - open
3 - third fret finger position
3 - third fret finger position

and also G may be played as

3 - third fret finger position
2 - second fret finger position
0 - open
0 - open
0 - open
3 - third fret finger position

Does this vertical view help you better understand the logic? It's
difficult to walk you through without the actual chord chart but you
can easily make those using homemade grids (or purchase a blank guitar
chord book/tablet at a music store) and, using the numeric chart, fill
in the chords on the grid on the appropriate fret positions.

What you may also do is to visit http://guitar.to/folder/guitar.html
or http://www.chordfind.com (both are wonderful sites for finding
chord positions - I use the former all the time) and enter each chord
to see the corresponding fretting.

If any of my explanation doesn't make sense, please request a
clarification. I want to help you understand the alpha-numeric chord
values because, once you do, all tabs will be open to you. Seeing the
alpha-numeric values vertically as opposed to horizontally is how I
finally came to easily grasp the meaning. :)

Best regards,
journalist-ga

Brilliant thanks Journalist, I can follow that. Just have to train
these fingers now, currently they have a mind of their own and will
not do my bidding! Time & practise.. cheers

All hail the vertical view! lol I'm delighted you grasped the
concept and thank you for your comments and added generosity! I
recall being bumfuzzled about those mysterious alpha-numeric mystery
chords and then when it was explained vertically, PRESTO!

Happy chording and let me know when you record your first album! ;)
