Do you know what "all wool and flat on the table" means? I heard it
said in a 1930's movie.

Hello gynalyn and thank you for your question.

It would be helpful if you could give us the context in which the
phrase was said. The phrase "all wool and flat on the table" is I
think a mixture of two phrases.

Best regards

Hello gynalyn-ga,

I wonder if the words were in fact "wool and flax". This a very common
phrase, which derives its popular usage I believe from King Solomon's
proverb (Proverbs 13:31), which is loosely translated as "She seeketh
wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands."

The words "wool" and "flax", commonly appear in the same context
referring two textile materials, and the line in the movie might be
better understood if this is what was actually said.
