Question ID: 23166
Where can I find a board layout for a PCI card for a PC which is in
.dxf format(standard drawing exchange format) ? This file would be
imported into printed circuit board layout software to create a PCI
board design, and would need to have reasonable enough dimensions in
it to build a working board.

Hi,
The Protel 99SE Design Package should meet your needs.

http://www.protel.com/eproduct/index.html

From their Quick Tour:

http://www.protel.com/eproduct/se_quicktour_4.htm

PCB design environment feature highlights:

32 signal layers, 16 internal planes, 16 mechanical layers
Fully-definable layer stackup and drill pairs
Rules-driven design environment with on-line and batch-mode design
rule checking
Comprehensive footprint and library creation and management tools
Board Creation and Component Creation Wizards
Import OrCADŽ Layout V9 PCB & library files
Import/export AutoCADŽ DXF & DWG files up to R14
Integrated 3D PCB Viewer with automatic modelling and extrusion
Full PCB-Schematic synchronization
Powerful manual and interactive routing modes with unbreakable
connectivity
Direct autorouting within the PCB workspace (no netlist import/export)

While their site doesn't talk specifically about PCI cards, the
following thread from the PCI SIG (SPecial Interest Group) does

http://www.pcisig.com/reflector/msg03901.html

Including a message from a Cisco engineer stating:

"Why don't you try an EDA, such as Protel. Protel create a PCI PCB
automatically with detaled mechanical information" (spelling his)

The original question comments on the fact that there aren't any free
PCI card layouts available, oddly enough.

Oops, when I finally saw the price for Protel, I was a bit stunned. I
don't suppose you're looking for an $8,000 answer? I suggest you jump
on that PCI SIG group and try e-mailing the guy who posted the
original question.

You might try the zipped DXF schematic at

http://www.amcc.com/Products/Pci/prod_173.htm

It's for a PCI development kit, and maybe you can salvage something
from it.

Enjoyed the search.
