I am upgrading a 15G toshiba drive to a 40G ibm drive in a vaio
laptop. I want to transfer the current windows xp installation.
Currently I use partimage from a linux boot cd to make backups onto an
external drive via firewire which works ok. When I try restoring the
xp image to the new drive it just hangs when rebooted. What am I
missing? I've tried sysprep -nosidgen with no luck.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314057 Sounds
like the same problem, note the condition of the imaging software. I
would expect you could follow similar procedures with the rescue mode
of the WinXP disk.
