A eudiometer contains a 65.0 ml sample of a gas collected by the displacement of water. The water levels inside and outside the eudiometer are the same. The atmospheric pressure is 92.5 kPa and the temperature is 23 degrees C. What volume will the dry gas occupy at STP? The vapor pressure of water at 23 degrees C is 2.8kPa |

Assuming the gas behaves as an ideal gas over this range of temperatures and pressures, Standard Temperature and Pressure is equal to 273K 101.325 kPa. 23°C = 296.15K From the ideal gas law, we know that V2 = T2/T1 X P1/P2 X V1. P1 equals the pressure of the gas sample which equals the total pressure in the eudiometer minus the partial pressure of the water. The total pressure is 92.5 kPa, and the vapor pressure of water is given to be 2.8 kPa, so P1 = 89.7 kPa. Therefore, V2 = 273/296.15 X 89.7/101.325 X 65.0 = 53.0 ml.
