Am moving to Birmingham, UK, to start a new job in a few weeks, in
Perry Barr, and am looking for somewhere to live. I am looking for
recommendations about how to find somewhere in a suitable area. By
suitable I mean somewhere that is not too rough and also has good
transport links with University of Central England, which is near
Perry Barr train station (and I believe some bus routes) and the
commute isn't too bad. I would also like to know where I can find
details of accommodation to rent in whatever areas are identified.
Preferably on the net, otherwise details of whatever local
publications are most appropriate and when they come out. This
question might suit someone who knows the area or has been in a
similar position, but obviously links to housing in recommended areas
would also be very useful. |

Hi Tom,
I don't really know Brum well enough to give you a sensible answer.
However, other researchers would be helped by knowing the sort of
accommodation you require - are you alone, with a family, do you
prefer a place on your own, or are you happy to share? For some very
general info, have a look at UpMyStreet.com, here is the URL that
relates to the area around the UCE post code:

Thanks, that's a very useful link, and there's a thread in there from
someone else moving to Birmingham (different part) which is a useful
starting point. For accommodation I'm single (25 male), realistically
financially I'm looking to share a place, preferably something like
sharing a flat with the owner, anything considered though but sharing
with students (been there done thatt)! I've been told Perry Barr
itself isn't a very nice place to live, hence looking slightly further
afield.
