Dear dcr,

I thought I knew the poem you were refering to, however now that I
have found it, I see that it probably isn't the one you were looking
for, but I will post it here as it might give you some inspiration
(It did for me when my wife was pregnant)

"Baby on the Way:

It is important to me
that I spend a part of
the next few hours here
alone with you in the darkness

You and I will never
be this close again
by morning you will be
a tiny person all your own.

No longer the kicking
demanding bulge
in my body that
I have grown to love so well.

I pray that God will safely
guide you in your journey
And I ask Him for the strength
to help you all I can.

Again - you signal
your impatience to be free
time to wake your daddy"

Like thx1138, I thought I remembered this poem (from a wall hanging my
mother made a number of years ago) but upon rereading it I see it's
likely not the same poem. In any case, here it is:

Cleaning and scrubbing
can wait till tomorrow,
for babies grow up,
we've learned to our sorrow

So quiet down cobwebs,
dust go to sleep,
I'm rocking my baby
and babies don't keep.
