I am looking for lists and information on companies who are involved
in software development in Vietnam.  I am an American software
engineer planning to live in Vietnam for at least a year and am
looking for employement. I am most interested in those located in our
around Hanoi, but large companies located elsewhere are worth noting
in case they have satellite offices.

These could be Vietnamese or foreign companies with offices in
Vietnam.  They could be software companies or other companies
(fincance, consulting) which also develop their own software.

I have done simple google searches and found various lists, but they
were not satisfactory.  Most were just stale indexes with a lot of
dead links, no sense if they were complete, and little or no
information about the indexed companies.

Thanks for your answer.  I was able to find those same links myself,
so I was hoping for something deeper.  However I don't think I was
able to specify this very well in my question, so that is my fault. 
Because each of these lists differs dramatically from the next there's
no sense that they are complete.  A survey of the "top X" software
companies by revenue, by an authoritative source, would be far more
interesting.  Also none of the answer seems to include foreign
companies doing projects in Vietnam, or have any focus on Hanoi.

This is my first Google Answers question so I'm not familar what to
expect for the relatively low price, so I'll certainly accept this
answer if it's considered fair.

Hi again umberto-ga and thanks for asking a clarification first before
making a rating.

When a question is asked here at Google Answers and we researchers
attempt to answer them, we can only go purely on the requirements of
the original question. Since some of the things you found as you said
are dead links, I thought the things I was able to dig up are
legitimate and are relatively new to you since the links are working.
Furthermore, you can see my first link includes companies as Microsoft
Vietnam so in a sense there is a representation of multinational
companies. You also said that companies located outside of Hanoi would
be ok too so I just included posted companies within Vietnam to get a
more complete coverage.

Since the request for clarification has additional requirements, I
suggest you post them again as a new question so other researchers may
take a crack at them. To somewhat make-up for this, I found the
following websites and  articles about the software industry in
Vietnam. Some are rather dated but these columns could give you an
overview about the business climate there.
