Hi jtrevino32! I recommend starting a business in relation to what you really enjoy. If your passion involves some of the best selling items on the Internet, you could think of a clever marketing scheme to attract customers worldwide. "The profitable companies are the ones with a well-defined niche that didn't have to go out and spend millions to get customers to come to them," ActivMedia director of research Harry Wolhandler told the E-Commerce Times. Look Who's Making Money Online - Without the Heavy Lifting by Keith Regan. (July 11, 2001) E-Commerce Times .com http://www.ecommercetimes.com/perl/story/11727.html The best selling items on the Internet include books, cds, DVDs, videos, toys, games, electronics, camera & photo, software, kitchen & houseware, outdoor living, and tools. If any of these items interest you, you may consider selling them from home. Take the first five, and start your home business! Thank you. What I'm really looking for is something non-sex related. Nonetheless, it is pretty interesting that vibrators are the best sellinbg item. |

it depends on what you would like to sell. you've got small things, like penciles etc. and i can imagine they sell thousands of that, but you won't raise a lot of money with that. software is sold a lot too, but the profit isn't that high, i think. so, it totally depends in which sector you want to sell things. Online Casinos are actually a big money-maker! I've personally blown over $400 on them! There's a directory of Casino affiliate programs at http://www.casinoaffiliateprograms.com/ For an actual product, I think I'd have to say lightbulbs. Start a web site! Let companies subscribe to your lightbulb delivery service! When I was in high school we sold lightbulbs door to door and I actually went to large companies, hotels, motels, malls, and even hospitals and brought in exactly $5800 in one week. Hotels and motels were my biggest buyers. Believe it or not, a good percentage of guests actually steal the lightbulbs from their rooms when they leave. It would save time and money if they could just get quarterly shipments instead of going to the store like everyone else. The product I'd never sell on the net: Pet food. By the time it shipped, your pet would be dead. Hope this helps! |

If you want to start selling thing on the internet DON'T start with a top5 product, the competition is WAY to big! Develop a site on your hobby or interest, the more specific it is the better. And from there you will be able to search for related products to sell. Niche marketing is the way to go, don't comtete with hundreds of thousands (or even millions) of others. |

I agree with Marcow to stay away from the top five areas. Travel is by far generates the most revenue but do you want to compete with Expedia or Travelocity? Pick a niche and design a really good website and track the user experience. I highly recommend the book from Ken Evoy at http://myss.sitesell.com/ for any niche market. Good luck. |

The best, easiest, cheapest, and often the most productive thing to sell on the internet is INFORMATION! If you have an idea you've been milling around, or maybe an expertise you have that others don't - write about it and sell it online. Hundreds of different "e-book" sites exist on the web and many do very well. Of course, everything from the site design, enticing ad copy, to even the domain name you choose will affect the amount of sales you make. But if done right you could make some nice pocket change. Create a website, accept payment with paypal, 2checkout.com, or revecom.com, and give the buyer instant access to the INFORMATION. Once it's all set up, the site runs on autopilot while you're out playing with the kids or swinging the golf club. |

It is difficult to sell a product, whether it is physical or informational in nature. The best online selling takes place on websites, such as Yahoo or eBay or Amazon, which bring together massive amounts of companies or individuals, each selling their wares. I've bought computer desks, an accordian, much software, several unique chairs, many books, used computers, and three typewriters and word processors, among other things. I tend to buy from sources which I feel are trustworthy; one bad transaction, and I rarely go back. Ultimately, though, I agree with marcow. Specialize. If you have an invention, or you have written your own book and have the equipment to print and bind in small quantities, you can make extra money that way. Do you have artistic talent? Make small, unique items with a large markup, such as jewelry, painted boxes, and the like. If you have something that is unique, yet still fits within a specialty niche, you should do well online. You can do especially well if your product is the type that can get repeat business. Ken |
