I seem to have lost my ability to download (free & legal) MP3 music files. Im using an iMac with OS 9.2, and browsing with Internet Explorer 5.1.6. Internal, dial-up modem. Both the OS and the Explorer were updated recently...maybe the root of my problem. Used to be I could download a piece of music and it would appear in my iTunes library, ready to play. Now, when I download from my favorite site, iuma.com, I just get a document on my desktop which cant be opened. On occasion, Ill get a Quicktime file which I have to convert to MP3 using the iTunes tools. When I download from MP3.com I get a player on my desktop which plays the file OK but disappears when I close Explorer. Similar results using Netscape 7.02 (also updated recently). I considered the possibility that iTunes was fullits loaded up with over 1,500 songsbut there doesnt seem to be any way to increase its memory. What do I need to do to download MP3 files to my iTunes library? | |

I don't use a Mac so cannot realistically look at your problem. However, I recently read an EMusic forum post at the following url that may bear fruit for you. It explains the 'Add to Library' option. EMusic - Message Boards http://msg.emusic.com/emusic/liststory/?topic_id=2604&month=200307 Poe |

Poe, thanks for the comment. I didn't know about that "Add to Library" trick. Good thing to know but but it didn't help with this problem. |

I solved my problem folks. I noticed that there weren't any iTunes applications showing up in my Explorer Preferences File Helpers. But there were a lot of SoundJam apps showing up there. SoundJam is an MP3 application that I quit using a year or so ago. So, anyway, I changed every "SoundJam" to "iTunes" and everything is back to normal. Thanks Supermacman and Poe for pondering this. |
