insert a AAA battery into and it would become the size of a AA

I found two sites - one may be the mail order catalog you used before,
and the other is a manufacturer / wholesale outlet with far lower
price per unit.

The first site is at

which is Brookstone, famous for "hard to find tools". They now sell
the "Battery Conversion Kit" which has a set of three sleeves - AAA to
AA, AA to C, and C to D for about $5 (price reduced!).

and will sell you two of these three sleeve combinations for $4 each
or $24 for a dozen.
