Description: 11 y/old, light mileage automatic Benz 300SL with an
3,000cc conventionally aspirated engine. Revs out like a beauty from
2,000rpm, but lacks torque (IMO) from a standing start until revs
approach 1,700rpm.

So far replaced distributor cap, plugs, cables, ignition, throttle
switch/valve, various parts of fuel system, timing rod, sent it for
'tuning' (whatever that means) tried octane booster and fuel system
cleaner.

Could it be a lack of compression? Does it need a re-bore? My
mechanic isn't able to do any more. It's a good car, but why do taxis
beat me at the lights?
