Where can I find some examples of commercial websites offering
educational content using the micropayment business model? E.g. where
the user is charged something like one dollar for a short course,
how-to guide or manual? I'm not looking for sites offering
subscription models or more expensive e-books. Any subject area will
do, though I'm especially interested in content related to
professional and personal growth.

I'm not sure if one dollar is considered a micropayment. Perhaps I
should have said minipayment :-)

Lidwien --

There are some good examples and they seem to be growing rapidly.

Researchers will best be able to serve you if specify a specific $$
range for payments.

Well, let's say from $ 0,80 - $1,50 per payment.

If you're wondering why I ask such a general question with this
specific price range: I'm an entrepreneur considering this business
model and I need to use a local payment system in my country that
supports only this price range.

Thanks Omnivorous.

Lidwein --

A guy by the name of Chris Pirillo has been running e-mail newsletters
on computer topics for several years. In the past year, he set up a
system to sell guides to various software issues, all for less than
$10. You may want to look at those:

As you're certainly well-aware, transaction costs are the prime worry
in micropayment models. Many American publishers provide archived
material (the New York Times is one of the most-popular) for a small
fee, but make available quantity purchases to make the per-article
cost lower -- while conducting the transaction fee only once.

Thanks for the tip Omnivorous. The Lockergnome Tutorials site comes
close to what I'm looking for. It's sort of halfway between
micro/minipayments 1 dollar and full-priced eBooks (>$20).

The transactions costs of the system I'm opting for are around 25%. I
find that acceptable.

The challenge is to develop concepts and formats for small-sized
chunks of content the user is willing to pay 1 dollar for. That's why
I'm looking for examples in the US or other English speaking
countries.
