What (early 90's ?) alternative rock song was this from:

It may have said "always" smiles under the surgeon's knife.

I think the gist was that she was the perfect wife, because she
happily went along with plastic surgery to make herself "perfect".

Also I remember hearing the song in the early 90's but it could have
been older.  That radio station is now talk radio, so the DJ's are all
long gone.

The song definitely refers to both the Surgeon's knife and uses the
term Perfect Wife.

I searched for these lyrics and the only song I could find that was
close to the one you're looking for is called "Different Rub" and it's
by a band called The Rainmakers. This band started in the late 80's
and disbanded in 1990 only to reform and this particular song came out
in 1996.

Here are a portion of the lyrics:

I'm sure those aren't it.  The song was about a woman that went to
great (absurd) lengths to be a perfect wife, even happily going along
with plastic surgery.

Sorry those aren't it.  The song definitely has Perfect Wife and
Surgeon's knife.  I've been searching on the internet off and on for
several years without any luck.  I don't believe the song's lyrics are
online.  I'm just hoping some Alternative radio guru will remember the
song.
