Hi Researcher. I'm located in England. Here's my dream..

I'm sat beside a small river or lake, deep in the countryside, coarse
fishing for some kind of edible fish. The banks are lined with trees
such as weeping willow, oak, crab-apple, and others. It's a hot, calm
summer's evening, and just behind me, up on the grassy banks, my
girlfriend, my buddy Mike, and his girlfriend, are sitting around an
open campfire enjoying a few bottles of red. Mike is a keen chef - his
gas burners are at the ready, waiting for our catch for supper. Our
vehicles are parked nearby, providing a little music (we're able to
crank it up a little on the volume without annoying others), and ready
with 12v power for the coming nightfall, which we plan to light with
low-wattage headlamp bulbs propped up on sticks, after we've visited
the nearby pub, which is within walking distance. Tomorrow we plan to
move onwards to a similar situation, elsewhere in the UK.

- there's nobody but us, for miles and miles -

Tell me.. in this day and age, is this accomplishable - I don't want
organised campsites with their opressive rules and regulations. I know
to take my own litter home, and I know to leave the land in the state
I found it in.

Your comments, suggestions, advice, and general ideas would be
welcome, thanks :)

I realise land is a valuable commodity - payment to landowners to
facilitate such activities seems fair enough to me - but does this
generally happen? and who, and how, to approach?

Your dream IS attainable.

I've done quite a bit of canal cruising and I have been continually
surprised by the number of beautiful spots such as you describe.

Of course, most of them are not accessible by car which is probably
why they remain so beautiful.

(In a boat, it's easy, you can moor pretty well wherever your fancy
takes you.)

So, abandon your vehicle and take a canal cruise!

Probonopublico - that's a darn fine idea - thanks! I'm reminded of The
Locks Inn at Geldeston, upriver of Beccles Bridge in East Anglia :)

Definitely something to consider. Cheers.
