I have seen many references to (and extracts from) the above, which
was compiled in anticipation of Germany invading Britain.

Is the full list (which is aid to include over 2,300 names) available
to the public and, if so, where?

I live in Hove (on the south coast of England), so the closer the
better .......

A very good evening to you!

The list does indeed seem to be available, and has been since the 1968
publication of a book called "The Last Ditch", by David Lampe. The
book deals with Britain's "last ditch" plans, should an invasion
occur. There are several references to this book containing the full
list, scattered around the pages listed below (search within these
pages for "ditch"). If for some reason the book does not contain the
entire list you were expecting, please do let me know!

You may already have seen the Manchester Guardian's 1945 article on
the discovery of the list, as it turns up fairly regularly in search
results on this topic - but if not, it's well worth a read:

http://www.guardiancentury.co.uk/1940-1949/Story/0,6051,127730,00.html

Tracking down "The Last Ditch" is not so easy, as it appears to be out
of print. My alma mater up in Falmer doesn't seem to have a copy of
it, although they may be able to make an inter-library loan request -
if not, the closest locations are London and Oxford.

Here's a list of some university copies:

http://www.copac.ac.uk/copac/wzgw?id=2800019&f=u&esn=F&rsn=1&rn=1

And here's the copy held by the British Library:

http://www.copac.ac.uk/copac/wzgw?id=2800019&f=u&esn=F&rsn=1&rn=2

If you wish to buy it, there are several offers available on the web,
starting around the $30 mark (international delivery will add to that
considerably, though):

Alibris used books:

Amazon used books:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/offering/list/-/0304925195/all/102-5728561-3397714

I hope this helps! If anything's unclear, a link does not function, or
you wish to start a debate about Falmer stadium, then please don't
hesitate to request clarification!

Hi, Seizer!

Many thanks for your answer.

I found 24 copies (in various countries) ranging from $18 to $60 ...
and I've now ordered one from a UK bookshop.

I expect that it will arrive within a few days.

I shall withhold my rating, etc. pending receipt of the book.

I believe that you said that you would pay for the book ....

This is greatly appreciated. I can take PayPal.

Kindest regards

Bryan

PS What did you do at Falmer?

As much as I'd like to make a gift to you of this wondrous tome, GA's
Terms of Service prohibit the posting of personal information on this
site - thus barring us from establishing a PayPal transaction ;-)

In all seriousness, my comment was just a reminder that if this
information proves incorrect, and the list is abridged somehow, I
would withdraw my answer!

I spent a few years in Sussex University, picking up a bachelors
degree in Computer Science. Contrary to public perception, we aren't
all impoverished and unqualified eccentrics, chained up in a basement
in Mountain View, CA. Some of us are chained up in good old British
basements, too.

Hi, Seizer

The book arrived (but only yesterday) and it certainly fills the bill.

Many thanks.

Fantastic - that's great to hear. I bit my lip after your carpe diem
moment, in case the stars were premature!

Happy reading,
