Hi,

Is there a portable air conditioning unit out there that is 14,000
BTU's or higher? If so, what would be the models and where could I
purchase one? I need a model that is portable and could cool up to a
1000 sq ft.
Thank you.

Hello Dorothy and thank you for your question.
The only portable air conditioners i found higher than 14,000 BTU's,
are the Quietmaster Electronic Series Energy Saving Portable Room Air
Conditioners (by Friedrich) which go up to 20,000 BTU's and come in
remote and manual control models:

According to this guide, the correct cooling capacity needed to cool a
1000 sq ft space would be 18,000 BTUs:

The SM20J30	model (for $989.95) is probably be the right air
conditioner for you.

Hi,

In your research, did you find any vendors in Southern California?

No, i'm afraid i didn't find any vendors in S. California, but i
suggest you ring Friedrick on (210) 357-4400 to find the nearest
dealer, or you can them send an email from here:

If you are looking to plug-in to a standard outlet (110V, 10 amp) you
are limited to around 8000 BTU's (see www.coldp.com), you won't pop
the circuit breaker at all on a standard system. If you go for
10,000 BTU's or higher you will nedd a dedicated circuit with up to 20
amps for "locked rotor" starts/stops (not very useful to plug-in to a
standard light socket)..

Here is a portable split unit by Delonghi. This is a very good unit.

Hopes this helps.
