Hi:
Since your question refers to a possible business transaction (one
company buying another), then the answer has to be yes, it may happen.
If your asking, however, is it likely to happen. The answer would
be no. Microsoft has never shown any interest, so far, in purchasing
online search engines or directories. They have been concentrating on
purchasing content.
  Here's a couple examples:

     http://www.netaction.org/msoft/world/table.html shows a list of
Microsoft assets from 1989 to 1997. They purchased content, software,
internet access (for enhancing MSN), but no search engines or
directories.

  http://www.microsoft.com/msft/InvestmentandAcquisitionsList.mspx#ACQ_2003
shows a list of MicroSoft's acquisitions through 2003 (according to
Microsoft). The first link above has better explanations as to what
the acquired companies were.

It just ain't true.

More likely that Google are going to buy out Microsoft.

And why not?

Microsoft are working on their own search engine - expect it to appear
in the next version of Windows, whether you want it or not.

I read somewhere that Microsoft did have negotiations to buy Google,
but that Google refused which is why Microsoft are now developing
their own search engine further. Read it on the web. Dunno where.
Sorry.
