Hello.
"Neighborhood Work Center-- The neighborhood work center provides work
space for employees of different companies in one location. Each
company housing employees at these locations is usually responsible
for the administrative and technical requirements of its employees.
Telecommuting also represents the mobile workforce. Employees who are
constantly on the road using technology as the main link to centrally
located resources. However, occasionally checking voice mail from home
or on the road, or working at home less than one day per week does not
qualify as telecommuting ."

"Neighborhood Work Center: Work centers are essentially satellite
offices designed to leverage economies of scale achievable by having
employees from different companies share the overhead of the same
teleworker location. Companies that house employees at these sites are
responsible for the administrative and technical requirements of their
own employees."

Neighborhood work centers are typically established by companies that
specialize in managing such centers. What happens is that the company
that manages the work center buys and/or leases offices space and then
rents out spaces in the office to different client companies. The
work center staff handles services such as "maintenance, cleaning,
utilities, office management, personalized telephone answering and
mail handling."

Now, about "virtual offices"...
"Virtual Office
Another form of Telework, Virtual Offices are those where employees
are located at a significant distance from corporate offices, even in
another state or country, making travel to the office location
prohibitive. A Virtual Office is then a "full-time" Telework
arrangement, where the employee and employer rely on
telecommunications bandwidth to link and collaborate. As with
Telecommuting, and perhaps even more so, a successful Virtual Office
Practice is dependent on the deployment of powerful collaborative
Technology as well as effective training and performance measurement
of workers and their managers."

"So what is a virtual office? The official definition is actually very
broad. Initially referred to as "telecommuting" but now called "remote
employment," its any arrangement in which the worker performs most or
all of their work at a location other than the employers office
usually from home. A virtual office is one where a significant
proportion of employees are remote workers."

"What Is Virtual Office?
In recent years, the virtual office has become one of the major
movements within business and other organizations, primarily due to
technology advances and associated benefits. A virtual office is a
temporary or permanent office setup in various locations: home,
satellite offices, hotel room, corporate office (shared work space),
airport, airplane or automobile. According to one survey there were
approximately 8.8 million virtual office workers in 1993. This count
continues to increase 10% annually. Corporations that have implemented
the virtual office concept include IBM, Lotus, Andersen Consulting,
Hewlett-Packard, AT&T, Dun & Bradstreet, Ernst & Young, and Compaq."

Thus, the "Neighborhood Work Center" is indeed related to the concept
of the "virtual office environment." A neighborhood work center does
provide a virtual office environment. As pointed out in some of the
articles mentioned above, a "virtual office" could also be located in
an employee's home, hotel room, etc. However, the "Neighborhood Work
Center" concept offers some advantages over a other types of virtual
offices. Specifically, the work center can provide a professional
address, conference rooms, top-of-the-line business equipment, mail
services, and support staff. Realistically, the "Neighborhood Work
Center" provides a much more professional environment than would be
possible in a virtual office located in an employee's home or hotel
room, for example.
