"QuarkXPress 4.0x allows you to save your documents in 3.3 format so
they can be opened in QuarkXPress versions 3.3x. To do this, choose
File > Save As and select 3.3 from the Version pop-up menu. If you
save a document in 3.3 format, the Save As dialog box displays every
time you select File > Save. The purpose of this is to remind you that
the document is not in 4.0 format, and that any 4.0-specific features
(listed below) will be converted to 3.3-compatible elements."

Have you tried doing this in V5? I don't have Quark myself so I'm
still trying to find how to do this.

"You can save a QuarkXPress or QuarkXPress Passport 5.0 document in
4.x format; however, some 5.0 features may not be retained, or may be
modified, when you do so."

It can be done :-) I'm still looking, please get back to me on my
previous clarification as soon as possible. Thanks!

Hi,

According to Pages 35-36 of the Quark 5.0 manual (which can be found
at http://www.et.byu.edu/~dsnelson/help/using_quarkxpress.pdf), this
is what you should do:

Use the File --> Save As menu (or Ctrl-Alt-S), which gives you a
squarish dialog box.

In the dialog box will be a rectangle that shows the file structure
and a place for you to put in the name of the document. The place
where you put the name of the document is labeled "File name." Place
a file name there.

Just below that is a place to indicate whether you are saving a print
document (file type *.qxd) or a Web document (file type *.qwd). Make
your selection.

Just below that is a little pop-up menu that lets you pick which
version of Quark format you wish to use. It says "Version" at the
left, and if you click on the right edge of the pop-up menu (it has a
little arrow pointing down), your options should pop up.

The instructions don't say which options are listed there, but it says
elsewhere that it is possible to save documents in Quark 4.x format.
So you should pick Version 4.1 or Version 4.x; if neither of those are
listed, use Version 4 or Version 4.0.

Then click "Save" and this should do it, although you may lose some
information saving in a lower version than 5.

I assume you're using the full version of Quark 5. If you're using
the demo, the "Save As" dialogue is disabled.

I hope this solves your problem. If it doesn't, I doubt if I can help
you further (although I would try), as this is the official Quark
documentation and I don't have anything better to refer to.

Best wishes,

This document is too big for me to download right now, but it may have
the answer. Good luck!
