I believe the poem has a verse that starts with "He/she was the north
of me; He/she was the south of me'
"He/she was the east and the west of me"

There is a poem by W.H. Auden that includes a line mentioning North,
South, East, and West, in connection with a lost love.

There is also a Cole Porter song that is similar to the lines you
quote.

Is it possible that you're thinking of the Auden poem or the Porter
song?
