I am attempting to locate an 80's style "ghetto blaster" that can play
vinyl albums. I'm not entirely sure such a thing exists.

I would consider a valid answer to be a link to a website where I can
purchase such a thing (eg an ebay auction). Any additional
information, pictures, history would be great as well.

In addition to my comments below, I forgot to add that there *is* a
VZ-2000 currently on eBay, but the turntable part "does not work." Do
you require a box that is fully working? Or will you accept links to
non-working units?

There is no answer at this time.

Greetings leftist!

Whenever someone asks about boomboxes, I always first point them to
the Boombox Museum:
http://pocketcalculatorshow.com/boombox/

To jump directly to the first page of the very enlightening Museum:
http://pocketcalculatorshow.com/boombox/birth1.html

There are at least several 80s boomboxes that had turntables:

The Sharp VZ-2000 (from 1980) is perhaps the most well known. You can
view a photo of it at:
http://pocketcalculatorshow.com/boombox/graphics/sharp-vz2000-4.jpg

I have read that this box usually goes for around $500 on up.
Unfortunately, you recently missed an eBay auction for this item:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3033286242&category=15053

The Marantz PMS 6000 (from 1982) has a fold-out turntable:

And back in the 70s, there was the Panasonic SG-6070 (from 1978) that
apparently had a turntable as part of it. I was unable to locate a
photo of it though.

The first two I listed above are some of the "Holy Grail" boomboxes
that are highly sought after:

You may want to make a posting in the Wanted section of the following
message board and also keep tabs on their For Sale section.
"The Boombox & Ghettoblaster Message Board";

I hope some of this information is helpful. I wish I could have
located one of those model that is currently for sale on the web.
Good luck on getting one!
