Question ID: 234022
I’ve recently hired and paid a company in India (and I’m in the US)
for writing original work, but have now found out that the work is
almost entirely plagiarized. I had made it explicitely clear that the
work could not be plagiarized and that it had to be original. If I use
this work as intended, I put myself in danger.

How do I try to find retribution from this company? In the US, this
would be a serious charge.

What are some ways to help convince this company to return my money?

Are we talking about a large sum of money that you paid? What I'm
getting at, is it sufficient that you could justify paying an Indian
attorney to initiate a lawsuit?

No, not large ($1380) but enough to get me mad and feel cheated.

The city is "MALAD, MUMBAI".

The area was IT.

How much would a lawyer cost me in India? Would it be worth it for $1380?

Thanks very much for your help.

Hi:

1. Please try lodging a complaint with Nasscom
(http://www.nasscom.org/contactus.asp) and make a complaint
specifically anti-piracy (your problem comes close). Nasscom can come
down heavily on the company who havre gypped you (I am assumimg that
your work done was IT related) ..if not, please specify the area.

2. If you can specify which city, I can even try and locate a
state-run complaints board that handles crime/corruption to whom you
can record your specific complaint.

Even though India resembles the Wild West externally, there are signs
of change and I hope that a combination of complaints and threats will
resolve your particular issue. I will monitor your answers and make
appropriate suggestions that will help to close the matter
satisfactorily/

I would certainly agree - and I posted the question. I was just
looking for a couple of ideas that would help me get my money back - I
was certainly not expecting this much help.

Zeelog-ga has given me a lot of guidance (here and via email) that
will hopefully help me get my money back.
