What percentage of remarries are successful? When the man or women who
has the affair marries the individual that they had the affair with.
Are there stats on Hispanic/Latin American individuals or a good
referance? I did find a Psy.D. dissertation from Dr. Layton-Tholl that
was helpful with the original question.

The focus is on making a marriage work after the affair. How many
don't work and end? Is there a study that states one year out, five
years out, or ten years out after the affair.

Hello again dhughl, and thank you for requesting me 

Several articles describe the divorce rate for remarriages as being
60%. (“Remarriage,” by Jennifer P. Kellar, Freedom News Service,
http://www.vvdailypress.com/family/remarriage ; “Building A Successful
Stepfamily,” by Carol Steffes, Focus On The Family,
http://www.family.org/pplace/schoolkid/a0025574.cfm ; “Divorced?” by
Hara Marnaro, Psychology Today,
http://www.smartmarriages.com/remarrying.html ; among others.)

However, it seems that among those who divorce, they rarely marry the
object of the affair: “Dr. Jan Halper’s study of successful men
(executives, entrepreneurs, professionals) found that very few men who
have affairs divorce their wife and marry their lovers. Only 3 percent
of the 4,100 successful men surveyed eventually married their lovers.”
In addition, those who *did* marry the people they had affairs with,
usually didn’t have successful marriages. “Frank Pittman has found
that the divorce rate among those who married their lovers was 75
percent.” ( “Online Affairs,” by Kerby Anderson,
http://www.catch-spouse-cheating.com/article_adultery_online_cheating_catch_affair_affairs.htm
)I could find no statistics about just how long those second marriages
lasted, but in general, 23 percent of second marriages in the U.S. end
in separation or divorce after five years, and 39 percent after 10
years. ("CDC releases report on marriage, divorce, cohabitation,"
http://www.capegazette.com/storiesmorgue/health/aaa2002health/cdcreport110102.html
)

I discovered that statistics specifically regarding Hispanics or Latin
Americans and remarriage are scarce; most articles dealing with the
topic are, not surprisingly, discussing the problems of remarrying
within the Catholic church. However, did find a couple of statistics
about Hispanic women that may prove helpful:

• “About 97 percent of separated non-Hispanic white women are divorced
within 5 years of separation, compared with 77 percent of separated
Hispanic women and only 67 percent of non-Hispanic black women.” (“43
Percent of First Marriages Break Up Within 15 Years,”
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/releases/01news/firstmarr.htm )
• “…the probability of remarriage among divorced women was …58 percent
for white women, 44 percent for Hispanic women and 32 percent for
black women.” (“CDC Releases Report on Marriage, Divorce, and
Cohabitation,” http://www.capegazette.com/storiesmorgue/health/aaa2002health/cdcreport110102.html
)

You may also find this pdf article, “Nuptiality in Latin America,”

I hope this helps!
