Outlook 2000 under WinXP will not send email when I travel (dialup
connection), yet it works perfectly fine when I am at home on my
LAN/DSL connection. I either get the message "THe SMTP server name
you specified cannot be found." or "TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly
terminated by your mail server. My ISP (MSN) says it's not their
problem. Microsoft's web
page doesn't seem to have any help. I've worked with my email
provider, my ISP provider, and researched, but can't figure it out! It
worked fine before I changed computers and installed Windows XP
Professional on my new laptop. The firewall is turned off. The SMTP
server is entered correctly. NO ONE can figure this one out!!!! Is
there something special about XP that has to be changed, turned off,
or reset? I can receive mail fine, and get out on the internet fine -
I just can't SEND email!!! HELP!! |

Good Day leslyons,
Are you using two different Internet providers for the dial up and the
LAN Internet access? If so, you might need to change outgoing SMTP
servers accordingly.
My Internet provider only allows using their SMTP server if I am
connected through them. If I go and connect to the Internet through
someone else I can still connect to the incoming POP server, but not
to the outgoing SMTP. At that point I would have to change my SMTP
server to match the Dialup provider.
This sounds too simple to be the case, as you mention you already
talked to your Internet provider... still, sometimes it is those basic
things that slip under the radar.
Please tell us what Internet Provider(s) you are using for all your
connections, and maybe we can find a different configuration that will
allow you to send E-mail from dialup and LAN (please include
geographical area like state or province for all Internet providers).
Regards,

My ISP is MSN for both DSL and dial-up. I have tried implementing the
information found in the Microsoft Knowledge Based Article 302095,
which SEEMS to address my question exactly, but it does not recognize
my login. MSN tech support can't seem to figure out why! I am
attempting to use the msn secure server (SMTP) as outlined in this
article, but again, when I configure everything exactly as they
outlined, I continue to get the MSN login box pop up, and it doesn't
recognize me - appears to be in a loop. I thought this would resolve
my issue, but nothing yet!!
