The only really simple way to transfer these files are by using a crossover cable (standard Category 5 patch cable with data pairs switched) and plugging one end into the desktop's ethernet card and the other end into the laptop's ethernet card. You can use either XP or 98 for sharing. Simply set a share on the folder or folders the files are in and copy them over. |

Adam, Are those the Lan cables? I tried using lan cables, but didnt work |

They are just like a standard Cat 5 LAN cable *except* two of the internal wires are switched; they are called crossover cables. On a normal network setup, there is a hub involved and this particular type of cable is unnecessary, however if you want to create a short link directly between two network cards (with no hub) then you must use a crossover cable, for reasons I won't go into. Just go to the computer store and ask for a short Cat 5 CROSSOVER cable. It should cost less than $10 at the most. |
