My Works 6.0 will not allow mailmerge or production of labels from a database. In mailmerge I can prepare the letter but when I select "Merge information from another type of file" in the "Open data source dialogue box" I am simply returned to the folder containing the database and the form letter. The same problem occurs if I try to produce labels. I have copied the form letter and the database to my other computer which runs Works 4.0 (having the files to Works 4.9 standard) and letters are produced without any problems. | |

Good Morning jamoretua, A reinstallation of Works should not take more than 15 minutes. Than again, Windows should not take 4 hours to install either and I am not sure what the problem could have been. Please let me know how things go. If they go well, I can post an official answer, else, please tell me what happened and I will try to think of another solution. Regards, Researcher slawek-ga |

Thanks again slawek-ga. Grand daughter is blooming. At last I have reinstalled Works 6 by clicking the repair button which appeared in the "remove programs" panel but still "mailmerge" and "labels" will not work. When I use the wizard in the Task Launcher, the screen reverts to the Task Launcher when I click the database which I want to use. If I do not use the wizard but work independently, it reverts to the form letter when I select the database. When I used a different database, I received an error message saying that Windows had encountered a problem and needed to close. It sent an error message to Microsoft but then it has done that before and I have never found it any help in serving a problem, largely because I do not receive a response! Any further ideas? |

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you... I have just found my list of older questions I responded to, and are clearing it out. :) You mention having run the repair utility: this utility can do wonders, but sometimes a reinstall is still needed. I would recommend completely removing Works, rebooting the system, and doing a clean reinstall. This can fix a lot of problems that the repair utility cannot. Let me know if this is an option, or if I should look for another solution (to be honest looking for another solution before reinstalling is like taking apart a car engine because it stopped: first check the gas tank! :) I look forward to helping you resolve this problem once and for all! Hallo slawek-ga - Now back from holiday and have reinstalled Works. The same problem arises. I choose "Labels", select the size required but when I try to import dat from the database, I receive the usual irritating Windows message:"Works Word Processor has encountered a problem and needs to close." The same thing happens when I choose mailmerge. As usual I send a report of the problem to Microsoft and as usual nothing seems to happen! Any thoughts please? regards jamoretua |
