I need suggestions (at least 3) for a neat present for a friend. This
friend (male) spends a lot of time driving, so i am looking for some
gadget or other device that would make his time more enjoyable. It
could be practical (for example, something to help his back ache) or
amusing. He is an intelligent person, so please no beer/naked women
jokes. It should not cost more than $20.

Greetings Vered:

I have more than three suggestions for you:

Archie McPhee has a wonderful assortment of novelty items including:

Wind Up Parking Space Goddess - set of 2 - $4.95
http://www.mcphee.com/bigindex/current/10286.html

Dashboard Jesus on spring base - $4.95
http://www.mcphee.com/lifestyle/current/11093.html

Foot Gas Pedal $14.95
http://www.mcphee.com/lifestyle/current/M5868.html

Surfer Bob spring action dashboard ornament - $4.95
http://www.mcphee.com/lifestyle/current/10458.html

Other products listed under "auto" at Archie McPhee are located at
http://www.mcphee.com/lifestyle/auto.html You could make a gift
basket for your friend from those and the other novelty items from
there as well. The main URL is http://www.mcphee.com

There are 7 unique car gifts on the site

within your specified price range.

At WalMart in my town, they sell a portable air pump that works for
inflating a tire if the need arises. It works off of the cigarette
lighter plug-in and makes a great safety gift - cost is $17.95. Check
a local discount department store for this item. Also, check on "auto
safety kits" at the same store or an automotive store. They come with
road flags (triangles) and other safety items if needed when stranded
and range in price. Showing your concern for his safety shows you
care.

Also, look locally for a nice pair of driving gloves - they make an
elegant gift. You should find some within your price range. Another
great gift is a laminated map - these are available at any large
bookstore for various regions and cities. I have one for my state and
another for my town. I used them ALL the time and the lamination
protects the maps and makes them easy to fold and unfold. They are
priced between $3.95 to $6.95 each.

I hope my ideas prove valuable to you. Thank you for the opportunity
to answer this question. :)

Best regards,
journalist-ga
