I'm looking for statistics on all or at least some of the following
questions:
(1) In the U.S., how many students enrolled in special schools for the
deaf
at the elementary level (i.e., from the start) go on to graduate with
a high school degree? How does this compare with high school
graduation rates among the general (hearing) population?
(2) How many deaf students graduating from high school in schools for
the deaf go on to college? How does this compare with college
attendance numbers for hearing high
school graduates? And how does it compare with college attendance
among deaf students who were enrolled in regular (hearing) high
schools?
(3) Of those deaf students who go on to college, how many go on to
regular (hearing) colleges, and how many to universities for the deaf?
Ideally, it would be nice to have separate data on all of the above
for bilingual individuals (ASL first, English second) as distinct from
English-only ("orally educated") students. |
