We have a legend in our family that our Irish ancestors (name of
Fudger) actually were descendants of the well-known Fugger family of
15th century Germany. This people were warlords and right up there on
the economic scale with the Medici's, etc.  I have an old book Das
Fuggerhaus (written in Old German) that makes no mention of spurs
heading off to Ireland.  There are still huge branches of the Fugger
family in Germany and several castles that bear the name. I know that
there is someone who is the official archivist for the family; I have
written to him, but with no response. I have been unable to find any
online reference to the family tree specifically, only many historical
references to individual Fuggers.  Rumour has it that my ancestor came
to Ireland with William of Orange in the late  1700's (could this be a
correct date?)  Can you help me find anything more specific about the
millions of Fugger descendants?

The earliest Irish ancestor I can find is Harris Fudger.

Don't know which Fugger came to Ireland, or which one came to be known
as Fudger.

I saw indications that at least some members of the "Fugger" family
ultimately reformed in Ireland as the "Fuggle" family.
