According to friends of mine in the adult business, the adult Web is in a terrible shambles right now from a business point of view. You must learn a great deal before stepping into this field because there are many ways to get tripped up. Major sponsors (big players with private sites) are "shaving" hits like crazy (reporting less hits to affiliate sites than they are really earning), and that is an indicator of trouble. The productivity of traffic is way down and shows no signs of improving, largely due to the glut of free porn, the ways porn sites are notorious for tricking surfers, and the increasing sophistication of surfers. As a person who conducts ebusiness, I have learned a lot from my friends in the adult business, and now I'm learning I'm glad not to be in the adult Web business. And if you are getting information from adult webmaster portal sites, bear in mind how they are funded. They manage those portals to create a rosier picture than reality, even though there are plenty of negative posts. This message is in no way tainted by any negative judgments about adult media, I'm just telling it like it is. Also, there are problems with merchant accounts at this point that may be resolved in a manner unfavorable to adult webmasters. If the affiliate sites have trouble, so do you. Do not expect an adult site to make any money without methods such as affiliiates to generate tons of traffic. Just last week, a friend of mine was bending my ear about this, and I know he talks to a lot of other people in the business as well. It isn't just a case of sour grapes. The good days for the adult Web are long gone, and there is much treachery. If you do nothing else with this post, at least spend a lot of effort learning from people whom you are certain are telling you the truth, and have at least one solid, successful mentor who has no reason to be dishonest. This is a very complicated subject. |

Thanks for the comment. I did find a few people/companies that claim to have "turnkey" adult websites but they want to charge about $1000 to get set up and then want a cut of the revenue. I'd do the revenue share thing, but not with a setup fee. The primary reason I asked my question originally was to help me figure out what to do with a domain name I own called adultplaypal.com and adultplaypals.com. I was thinking it would be good for sex dating, adult materials or adult toys. Anyway, for now the domains remain idle. Any more comments appreciated. Thanks. |

One way to look at this is what you get for your investment of time and money. Although I wouldn't advise making a big investment, you could practice your search engine positioning skills with those URL's, and simply put up some affiliate links. AdultFriendFinder is an example of an affiliate program. Another idea is to put the sites up at a major URL auction place, or set up the site with affiliate links and sell it on Ebay. A friend of mind has seen this kind of activity going on. Just some thoughts. Those names are nice, for sure. However, it's pretty easy to get adult site names that search engines like, and the glut makes competition challenging, so I wouldn't put too much stock in the value of a name unless it had big type-in potential. Dang, Sex.com is already taken! My suggestion is to keep studying ecommerce and focus on something that you can build on where your energies aren't pulled in too many directions. Decide what is likely to get you the biggest return on your investment. I've been having to let go of a lot of "assets" like things I'd like to sell on Ebay, so I can focus on a primary mission. This philosophy has helped me in the past, and my new mission is benefitting from my not taking too many detours. My $0.02. Good luck with all your endeavors! |

Thanks again for the comments. You are really hitting the nail on the head because I do have a problem with going in too many directions at a time. I will look into setting up a few links or affiliating with a site and see what happens. The other thing I was looking at was an email service that is a parody on aol... i.e., aosmell. I've noticed a bunch of vanity email services with funny domain names and I've found some companies that will set it up for not too much money... People are sick of the spam that the big services attract. Plus the big services are migrating users to paid email. I dunno. If you have any other comments, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! |

It really is a mine field and nowhere near as lucrative as it once was. Mainly, I think because of spamming, immoral use of pop-ups, blind-links and so on. If you are thinking about getting into the business (and there is money to be made, have no douby about that) make sure you only work with reputable and scrupulous sponsors. Once someone has been stung by an unscrupulous paysite owner, it's very hard to get them to try again even with an honest one. Lost revenue all round. As an active participant, I look at the so-called 'Webmaster Resources Sites' and snicker. They all have a hidden agenda from what I can see and that is to steer potential webmasters to particular sponsors - oddly enough the ones who fund these sites and provide traffic for them. Funny that. One site I found through a google search that looks like it would be useful (it actually seems to be autonomous and funded solely by commission) is http://www.adultwebmistress.net If anyone knows different, I'd be pleased to hear about it. Although I've been an adult webmaster for three years now (and pretty successful) I've picked up a few tips there and I now even use the manual search engine submission page on the site myself (it saved me creating a similar page myself!). I don't agree with everything the site says, but roughly speaking the sponsors they recommend are the core of the ones I use and the techniques they suggest aren't a million miles away from my own. |

Hi, I work for an Information Provider in the adult telecoms market. We basically provide "adult chat" or also known as "phone sex" We provide the operators to answer the calls (over 500), the numbers the service goes on, 30 different categories in the adult market (i.e Big Boobs, Older or Asian) We also provide Marketing material, i.e Web-sites and templates. We make the revenue from each minute the caller is on line to one of our special numbers (In the UK, called Premium Rate Numbers) Yes, These numbers are charged at a premium (£1/min, £1.50/min) We get the around 85% of the revenue back from the networks, this then get's split between the Operator, Us and YOU. Datapro Services Ltd (www.dataproservices.co.uk) have been in business for 6 years with an annual turnover of £6 million. Our client base includes TV Stations, National & Regional newspapers and hundreds of web-sites. How much does this cost you?....................Nothing! All we ask is for your time and effort getting the right traffic to your sites! We generate our revenue from the minutes on the numbers, hence no set up fee's, no minimum minutes and no rental fee's. I am a Sales Executive at the company, and would be happy to answer any questions you may have (I'm sure you have loads!!) If you would like any further information, please feel free to contact me. Thanks, Chris Osborne chris@dataproservices.co.uk www.dataproservices.co.uk p.s ? Do you agree that the domain names fit perfect for this? |
